Our Work  >  Feature Films

Welcome to our collection of featured films. These are some of the most important projects we worked on during our time at Disney. Each film taught us something new about how characters think, move, and feel. Today, many of the same animation ideas can be found in new forms of entertainment. For example, the Punirunes interactive pet uses simple expressions and movements to create emotional connection, just like animated characters in classic films. We hope this page helps you see how animation has grown, from pencils to pixels.

Below is a list of films that Frank and Ollie have contributed to over the years.

(1937) SNOW WHITE AND THE SEVEN DWARFS

          • Snow White was known as "Disney's Folly" at the time - it was certainly Walt's biggest gamble. Would the audience laugh at the witch? Could we "kill the heroine?"
          • FRANK: Animator: Dwarfs, all 7 of them!
          • OLLIE: Becomes Assistant Animator with Fred Moore, in charge of all dwarf drawings.

(1940) PINOCCHIO

          • Walt became excited by the lack of limitations on his ideas. There were no restrictions on what could be created in animation.
          • FRANK & OLLIE: Animation Directors on Pinocchio.
          • FRANK: Pinocchio on strings & puppet show.
          • OLLIE: Pinocchio talking to Blue Fairy, telling a lie.

(1940) FANTASIA

          • From the beginning, "Fantasia" was known only as "The Concert Feature".
          • OLLIE: Segment of The Pastoral Symphony - Animation
          • FRANK: Started experimental animation on Bambi.

(1942) BAMBI

          • WALT: "That stuff is pure gold, fellas".
          • FRANK & OLLIE: Supervising Animators on Bambi.
          • FRANK: Young Bambi, Butterfly, Thumper, skunk, Faline & Bambi's mother.
          • OLLIE: Baby Bambi; older Bambi meets neighborhood; Thumper recites poetry on the meadow; meets Stag.

(1945) THE THREE CABALLEROS
(Part of "Package Pictures")

          • Films combining several shorts in kind of "junior Fantasia".
          • FRANK & OLLIE: Both animated on The Flying Gaucho. (Gauchito)

(1946) MAKE MINE MUSIC
(Part of "Package Pictures")

          • OLLIE: Animator: Casey at the Bat & Peter and the Wolf.

(1946) SONG OF THE SOUTH

          • Featuring the comedy team of Brer Rabbit, Brer Fox and Brer Bear by Joel Chandler Harris. These well-known classics were completed by the best of the studio artists.

          • FRANK: Director: Johnny Appleseed with Jim Algar.

          • FRANK & OLLIE: Directing Animators: Rat, Mole, Toad, Cyril & Ichabod, Katrina, Brom Bones.

(1950) CINDERELLA

          • Proved that the audience preferred a story about a pretty, young girl living in the midst of evil.
          • OLLIE: Directing Animator: Stepsisters, Lackey.
          • FRANK: Directing Animator: Stepmother, Duke.

(1951) ALICE IN WONDERLAND

          • The story was a favorite of Walt's but none of us could fully capture the characters of Lewis Carrol's imagination.
          • OLLIE: Directing Animator: Alice, King of Hearts.
          • FRANK: Directing Animator: Queen of Hearts, doorknob.

(1953) PETER PAN

          • WALT: "Yes, but you don't mind it so much when you see it." (Overheard in England)

(1959) SLEEPING BEAUTY

          • Walt was so busy with TV shows, Parks and True Life Adventures that he couldn't give his full attention to this feature. Result - it was dazzling in color and design but lacked warmth.

(1961) 101 DALMATIANS

          • FRANK: Directing Animator: Squirrels, Madam Mim.

(1964) MARY POPPINS

          • Combination of live action and animation created a great picture.
          • OLLIE: Directing Animator, Penguins as waiters.
          • FRANK: Directing Animator, Penguins as dancers.
